I think it is more about mental insurance, as far as I know some of the lower end rods are the same. Unless you go with the real expensive Lunati and what not you will be getting the same rod. If I am correct most are not 100% made in the US. If I am wrong someone please correct me, I am not an expert, just trying to provide some light on the question. I my self would not use a rod unless I research the company first, if they seem to be legit and not complains on their product I will purchase it regardless of what one single persons says about them. In the other hand if I heard bad things about a certain product I might say away from that company. I hope this helps

I broke an Eagle H-beam rod in my old 408. Best I can figure is I had a leaking head gasket, because it locked up when i tried to start it one day. Upon teardown i found a bunch of water in one cylinder and the rod busted right in the middle.

I've seen several broken stock rods but most were when a piston shattered or a cylinder hydrolocked. Saw several Lunati Pro Billets bend under NOS but they could have had some hydrolock action as well.
In general until you get really crazy you just wont be breaking rods. 10,000 rpm is putting some stress on a rod and so is 2,000 hp but I have seen normal Eagle rods hold both of those as well.
In something like NASCAR where you have 9500 rpm for 500 miles I think a lot of rods would crater if they weren't really nice parts like Carrillo with the best possible bolts but this is ten times harder on stuff than dragracing and 100 times worse than street driving.
What will kill any rod and fast though is a breakdown of oil to that rod journal. When you see most spun rods bearings it's usually from no oil or too tight a clearance and when they stick then some rods will breal especially teh powedered metal ones!
