I'm getting closer on a cam choice... give me some insight
Ok, I'm doing another head swap on the car the second week in October and I'm going to step up to a larger cam while I've got it tore down this time. Let me tell you about the heads first, they are the new patriot heads that are based on the 6 liter castings that have been welded up and then CNC'd out. They have a stock deck height and a 59cc chamber, that will put me right at 11.5:1. Now for the two cams that I have been considering first is the TSP 231/237 and then the new TR236/230.
I'm wondering if the reverse of the Thunder cam will make it idle better and be easier to tune? I don't have any "first hand" experience with larger cams, so some of you guys that have been there chime in! I know that a traditional split is more suited to nitrous and the reverse is supposed to make up for the restrictive intake on our engines. Are there any other advantages or disadvantages to each of these "types" (reverse or traditional split) of cams? Will one of them have a flatter torque curve than the other?
Thanks

I would expect the TR cam to idle better, but the TSP standard split cam to put down better numbers. You could also try something inbetween those two. My buddy has an XE-R 228/236 112 cam and it idles pretty rough in his A4 and is why I got my single pattern 228/228.

When are you doing this swap.
If you wait a couple of weeks I can tell you how my set-up runs. Absolute Speed stage 2 heads 5.3's (i know they are not the 6.0's) and a custom Comp XE-R 230/236 .602/.592 112 lsa.
The CR will be 11:1
If you wait I will let you know. I was considering the reverse split, but decided against it. The 230 on the intake with the cam I have is still plenty for the intake side. The traditional will make more top end power correct..

I'm going to be doing the swap the second week in October, so be sure to post back with your results if you get yours going before then.

Has anyone went from a large reverse split to a large traditional split.. or vice versa? If so, what were the differences in drivablity and power curves. A dyno comparison graph would be most beneficial.

I have MTI`s X1 cam and love it. 112 lobe and the sound is sweet. Jayson at MTI tuned her and she runs good all the time. On spray she is crazy! I`m safely tuned for spray and you can see in my Sig the numbers I pulled. I`ve got my dyno sheet. If you want to see , PM me your E-mail and I will send it. You will love this cam!!!!
P.S
I drive this car everyday and run my A/C all the time. No problems at all!

havent had any issues with mine. i have missed a gear and slammed the rev limiter hard on nitrous and then dynoed 425 a couple weeks after that

Cool.. thanks for all the info guys. I went ahead and got the TR236. I'm going to run it on my existing 5.3 heads, then swap the 5.3's for the LS6 style and see the gains between the two heads.
