Default LS2 and LS1 valley cover?

Can someone tell me what difference there is if any in the LS1 and LS2 valley covers?

What I mean is can a LS1 valley cover be used on an LS2 block or modified to fit so we can use the LS1 knock sensors with an LS2 block?

Has anyone tried this?

Pardon me if this has been discussed but I haven't seen this mentioned only that the LS2 valley cover has no knock sensor provisions and the LS2 knock sensors don't work with the LS1 PCM.

If you could use the LS1 valley cover it would seem like problem solved right?

I have a pic of the LS1 cover but not of the LS2.

Anyone have a pic of the LS2 cover?

You cannot use the LS1 valley cover. There are no knock sensor bungs on the LS2 block. Also the oil pressure bung on the LS2 is in the LS2 valley cover. Hang in there, quite a few of us are working on the knock sensor sollution. We have 3 LS2 402CI motors on stands right now.

Here is the LS2 cover. Completely different shape. Also as Mikey pointed out, the knock sensors are in the block for Gen iV motors, not the valley.

Gen3 LS engines use resonant sensors & are 10mm x1.5 thread. Gen4 uses flat response style, 8mm x 1.25 thread. They mount to the bottom center of the sides of the block. Installing a Gen4 block in a vehicle that came with a gen3 engine you can drill the 8mm hole bigger & tap for the older style sensors or there's extra 10mm holes in the block behind the engine mount holes.

Or you can use the newer flat response sensors if ya have an 02-newer fbody, theres a selection on hp tuners for flat response sensor type.

I know this is a old discussion but if my car is 02 F body , can I use Ls2 knock sensors in my car and use my HPT to make my PCM to recognize the?
