l92/ls3 rear oil seal

l92/ls3 rear oil seal anybody have a rear seal leak which affected the clutch?
I am in the process of replacing my clutch ('97 c5-with l92 in it) and have found that there is a large amount of clutch dust, which is sort of gooy like oil, but I am not sure it is oil-on the inside of the dust cover. I only have the inspection plate off at this point; but has anyone had a problem with a rear seal on any of these engines? Maybe it is not oil-I will find out when I get my trans jack (had to order one) so I can finish pulling the rear end out.
-anyone one with experience please chim in.
