just bought a ta for $5k, 40000 miles and this is what it has. a 408 with a 232/242 .605/.609 on 114 lobe sep
98 LS1 heads Stage II CNC ported with hard finish
tit. retainer, locks, etc 2.02I/1.57 with comp valve job

What does that mean in english? Also how do I tell if its a long block or short, its a TSP and cost 6000.

All this i got from previous owners receipts.

it means it has a nice motor. does it run?

long block and short block are the same thing; just ways to describe different levels of assembly. Generally, a short block is just a block with the rotating assembly (crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons). A long block is a short block with heads, oil pan, and usually water pump. It gots its name from the water pump making the assembly "longer" than a block without.

Are ya sure its got a 408ci engine in it? You'd be able to "smoke" a C6 Vette. Does it run like that?
An engine like that today woud cost about $8,000-$9,000 to build nicely.

Short block means block, crank, rods, pistons and bearings. Long block means a complete engine with cam, heads, intake and TB ready to install in the car.

yea its a 408, its quick, its untuned (well i am working on the tune) it is 430/490 so far, I am trying to get all the info for Mike at vengence racing, he will be tuning it in the next 2 weeks. I know the heads are the weak point, but with the nitrous, I am satified. but as far as the cam, is that too mild of a cam? It doesnt have a lumpy lumpy sound, more like an exotic sport car sound.

That is an appropriately sized cam for the motor. L92 heads will really wake it up; i wouldn't mess with the cam.
