Need a new budgetish engine
To make a long story short, earlier today my engine threw a rod for whatever reason about twenty seconds after it made some crazy noises and before I got it stopped, and the block is toast. I guess the silver lining is that I get a brand new engine to play with. I don't know nearly enough to spec out an engine though. Should I just do a 408, or go with an LSX block, and if so, what kind of bore/stroke combos could I use? What kind of pistons and rods do I need? What about heads/cam for a big stroker engine? Should I get a cam custom spec'd from one of the resident gurus? What all pieces can I use from the old engine? Can I do this on a 5-7k budget? Please help!
Also, I guess I should state that I'm looking for a mildish engine making 470-500hp, which shouldn't be asking that much. The car is/was a daily driver. I would rather have a torquey motor with lots down low than a high peak hp motor that sacrifices the low end fun.
Thanks in advance.
Adam

Give us a call I bet we have something that will fit your needs. We probably have 30-40 short-blocks in stock right now! I personally like the 408s for bang for the buck, but there's tons of different options depending on your goals.

if u want something "budgetish" u will want to stick w stock cubes but spend the money on durability, better to go with a 346 with good parts, then a bigger cube with cheap parts, or u will be doin this quite often
EDIT just seen 5-7k, i dont consider that a budget, if thats what u got to spend, id spend about half on a short block and the other half on heads/intake/ supporting mods/all that smalll stuff adds up, id go with the 408, my motor just popped too, but i dont have the kinda money to spend
