Default LS2 timing chain dampner or not?

Just found out today that you can run without this. Is there any advantage to run it or not?

If the car has it, use it. If its an LS2 block and doesn't have one, get one. It keeps the chain from wrapping on the bottom sprocket.

It is a LS2 block and has bolt holes for it. The cam gear that is on it looks bigger than stock. I have one coming but not for sure it will fit?

It won't be bigger. The bottom one is half the size of the top so you get two perfect revolutions of the crank for one rev of the cam.

Definitely use it. There are a lot of LS1 guys who wish they still made the LS1 version.

I took mine out, because i run a double roller timing chain. It works fine with the chain, BUT when i went to change the cam, I could not get the chain off the sprocket or remove the damper, When i unbolted the sprocket from the cam the sprocket would not drop down low enough to remove the chain. I had to take the oil pump off to get to the damper bolts out. With a single chain there might not be a problem, but with the duel chain it a pain in the ***.

The original LS1 engines had it although it was made of stamped steel and had clip on plastic guides, this design did not make it past the bean counters and was deleted for production. In 1999 we started breaking chains in the Motorola cup engines when the right circumstances presented themselves, the fix was the dampner to stop the chain whip that was caused by crank deflection. If you can keep it in your engine it will not hurt you, and might help you quite a bit.
