I have been using the 3-bolt style (4x gear) from the 2006 LS7 to replace the single bolt cam and gear for "in-car" swaps, for engine buildups I have used both single and double roller 4x chains. If you use a double roller, you have to grind the timing cover internally behind the cam sensor bolt boss; it interferes with the chain.

To match the std. Gen III LS1/LS6 camshaft cores that most places would supply. I have not ordered any single bolt aftermarket camshafts thus far; although probably will start soon with the LS3-specific camshafts. I'm not sure if there are plans for an aftermarket LS3 timing set either other than the 3-bolt setups. The 3-bolt timing gear is just the easiest simple solution.

We've done extensive dyno testing on the engine dyno with the LS3 engine. If you'd like to see some different dyno sheets from numerous different camshafts on the engine dyno give us a call! We can help you spec something out!
