Default LS2 build help

So im weighing my options here, I have an LS2 that i purchased from work as a core motor out of a TBSS. It had two spun rod bearings and the connecting rods are damaged, so at a minimum im going to need a set of connecting rods. My question is if i put aftermarket connecting rods in it, will i have to balance the rotating assembly? Im also considering forged pistons too because the car will be sprayed. But the thing is by the time i buy aftermarket rods and pistons im half way there for a nice 402 stroker kit. Let me know what you guys think. thanks guys.

I say if you are replacing any internal parts, have it balanced. It really does not add that much to the cost of the build, then you are sure it's right.

I agree, When I had a few engines built they only charged a few hundred bucks more. I had a Forged LT1 383 Stroker built and they charged me 225.00, and when I had a 6.0L LQ4 and 5.7L LS1 Built they charged about the same as well. It's cheap reassurance, and not much more money.

Also if you go that far, It's not gonna cost a whole lot more to buy a stroker crank and have 402 as you said. And IMO, I have a 403 LS2 and I will NEVER go back to a small cube engine again. I love Big Cubed NA engines. In Fact, I'm looking into a 427+ CID Engine build as we speak and I'm talking to sponsors to help assist me in a direction to go.

If you need any help, There are Many sponsors on here to help with building or just specing or even selling you a good rotating assembly. I suggest looking into that. IMO

Good Luck with the build.

thanks guys i appreciate the feedback. Im thinking 402 like you said lt1formula007 i have a few friends with a 402 and they said they couldnt believe the night and day difference over the LS1. It just seems by the time you factor in the cost of headgaskets, headbolts, bearings, balancing and everything you might as well go 402 that comes with rings and bearings in most cases. I just dont have the money yet lol

Yeah The Night and Day dfference is what sold me on the 403+ CID Engines. Plus being bigger cubed, the bigger cams will not feel as big in them either. The cubes will soak up the cam and offer great street manners.

Good luck!
And remember; Rome wasn't built in a day, And neither will your car.
