Default Engine builders inside***Want to build a low torque/high peaky hp LS3 416ci

Sounds crazy I know...I want to build a 416LS3 and try to limit the low rpm torque hit while making the rev range and hp peaky(7000rpm or so) while keeping idle quality within reason.. Reason being its going into a 2300lb car and too much torque down low will be a hand full. Here's what I was thinking.. 416LS3 with 12/1 compression, TrickFlow 235 CNC heads, cam(rough idea) around 236 intake and 240 exhaust .600ish lift set on a 118LSA..Add to that Edlebrocks Pro-Flo XT tunnel ram intake or sheet metal intake and Kooks 2" primary headers..

Throw any ideas out there..

Thanks

Short runner intake will definitely help soften the low rpm torque while boosting the topend power. Cam choice will totally depend on what manifold you chose. Choose your cam and pushrods last.

Pull lots of timing down in the lower RPM's if it makes too much low end torque, or up the torque management settings. Why solve with hardware what you can solve with software? But, with 12:1 CR and that many cubes, its gonna have alot of torque.

416 is great for tq, To get it to make power up top id run a victor junior, if u run a wide lsa cam late ICL low overlap it will force its peak past the manifolds and basically ruin low end and not get the top end you desire.

Over cam it and drop the CR down to 10.5-10.8. Short runner intake as was said. Choose a cam with a wide LSA.

I would just use a stock crank and spend the money saved on the internals, or heads/valvetrain.

Not really a budget build. I'm also considering an LS7 block for the build..Going to put the engine in one of these..Picked up my kit and 2002 Vette donor car last weekend..

why not a stock crank ls3 with a turbo on it from what I have seen on the GTM the engine bay is just screaming for a turbo with an a2w intercooler.
good luck

Keeping the 2004 unless someone makes a good offer.. I picked up a new LS3 block this weekend. Want to keep it N/A.. Turbo would be too much HP is such a light car. It would take the fun out of driving a car like this..

A shorter stroke would be MUCH better for your goals. Lower torque, higher revving, and a better rod ratio with lower bearing speeds. A 416 is a bad starting point IMO. Stick with a stock LS2 or LS3 crank.

How does that work? Better rod ratio = shorter stroke, longer rod vs shorter (or same) rod with a longer stroke. Decreases rod angle and bearing speeds, and allows the motor to safely rev to a higher rpm, and last longer doing it. The stock crank/ rod combo results in almost a 1.7:1 rod ratio, where as the (4") stroker crank comes up closer to 1.5:1.

Good luck with your build buddy. I'm about 80% complete on my GTM. Putting together an LS3 as well. Tech Junkie + GTM = FAST.

I'm going to stick with a 416LS3 and limit torque through cam selection , intake design and tuning...

Glad you mind is/was already made up. You really didn't really want any contrary ideas, did you?

Have fun.

Wasn't already made, just talked to my tuner a couple of days ago and then made up my mind..I'm not against short stroke motors. I have one in my 91' Vette, destroked 400ci block 379ci motor, short stroke big bore..

Is that a factory five? Those things are sharp, I've considered one for a bit now. We're doing a 457 engine for an SL-C (2100 lbs) right now. He wasn't real concerned with the low and mid range tq being to much but wanted to limit the rpm to prolong valve-train components.

At those cars weights a stock LS1 would suffice good luck with the project, should be fun !
