reluctor wheel

reluctor wheel
What is involved in replacing the crankshaft reluctor wheel on a gen.4 6.0? or any other ls engine. I've got a damaged 58t wheel on my crankshaft (2009 model) and I'm wanting to replace the wheel with a 24t wheel. The 58t wheel appears to be spot welded on in one spot, it is solid 1 piece, where the 24t wheel is 2pieces riveted together. My first question is does the reluctor wheel need to be indexed on the crank (installed in a certain position), if so what position and does it need to be pressed on only or welded also? or can I just installed it in any position? Will performing the crankshaft variation learn procedure take care of installing it in any position? Will rebalancing be necessary after this? I've built many ls engines and a few strokers but I've never had to r&r the reluctor wheels, all the cranks came with it already installed. Maybe some of you can help me with this issue. thanks

The reluctor wheel must be accurately indexed to the crankshaft. Crank relearn only corrects for small sensor position variation. Goodsen makes an installation tool. http://www.goodson.com/store/templat...l.php?IID=4147

They are mounted in a specific position. There is an installation tool out there, I think it quite pricy though. You may want to contact a couple of sponsors to see if, and what they get to replace it. With the exception of the 4.8's, and LS7's all the other motors use the same crank 3.622 stroke. You may want to consider picking up a used 24x crank. Might be cheaper and less of a hassle.
