Default 6.0 build

I got a 6.0 out of a 3/4 ton truck that was wrecked, it has 317 heads. Whats the specs on the engine as far as comp ratio and hp. What is required to replace my ls1 in my 98 camaro with this 6 litre?

its most likely an lq4, cr is around 9.6:1. as far as replacing your ls1 with it its fairly simple, take all the accessories and the water pump, the oil pan, the intake and fuel rails/injectors, off your ls1, bolt them onto the 6.0, and you're all set. you may have to drill/tap a hole for the ls1 alternator bracket but thats the only real difference externally

Thanks. Anyone know the hp? Are the 317 heads better than other ls heads?

The motors are rated around 275hp. 317 heads are one of the better flowing LS cathedral heads in stock form but they have large combustion chambers so compression is low. One of the best ways to pick up an LQ4 is to bolt on a set of 243 casting heads. They maintain the same flow but come with a 64cc chamber so you get a healthy bump in compression. Pair those heads up with a cam and the motor should do much better.

I thought the 6.0 were rated at 300hp but I am not positive... you could just mill the heads to bring compression up as well, that would be cheap. Add a cam its gonna run pretty strong!
