Default ls2 h/c gto build

I have lurked on this website for quite sometime and have recieved some invaluable information that helped me decide the route I wanted to go with my car. So, I figured I would finally join and start a thread on my build in the hopes it may help someone else make choices in the future.

My goal is for a nice strong street car that will not be a pain to drive. She will probably see the track every once in a while, but that is not her main purpose.

I also have to mention that I have gotten great information and guidance from my tuner (Andrew @ CSP) and much appreciate his work that has been performed in the past (see sig) and looking forward to this new work he will complete.

Current build parts as follows:

Lunati Custom grind cam (227/235 .6xx/.6xx 114)

SLP oil pump

Double roller timing chain

226cc AI head porting

BTR .660" polished dual spring kit w/locators, viton seals and titanium locators

Trend Hardened Pushrods

ARP head bolts and GM head gaskets

Lunati Pro Series Hydraulic Roller Lifters

CSP resized stock injectors

Dyno/Street tune

Gforce level 1 anti hop kit

I am in line to get the install done around the end of April beginning of May. I will attempt to update the thread with pics from the build when it is completed and hopefully a little dyno vid.

Sounds pretty sweet! Are you planning any track trips soon? Just interested in what ETs she puts down.

I should have more than enough time to make it to the track once or twice this year. I am by no means a pro driver, so I'll see what I can get out of her.

That cam is small IMHO.
But maybe you wanted something small

I'd avoided the SLP pump and gotten a melling 10296 and I would of avoided the dbl roller chain in favor or a katech C5r and not hav to hack up my timing cover.

Otherwise you pick some quality products, that's do sure!
Good luck an keep us posted.

Cam is small, but this combination has been proven on multiple builds I have seen. Power goal is over 450rwhp which I think will be easily attained.

Oil pump/dbl roller is going on mechanic/tuner's advice and a new timing cover that fits properly is being installed.

I was able to drive in a car with the same cam and similar heads before my build and felt no cam surge even lugging around at around 1k rpm. I just want a fun driver I can drive and have a good time in with an occasional track visit.

Gforce level 1 anti wheel hop axles are also going on with this visit. An ls7 clutch and ported fast 102 will soon follow....when I come across more cash...that seems to be a recurring issue...LOL

Will hopefully update within the week with #s and graph.

Met Andrew on Saturday to get the car all tuned and some issues were run into before we got her on the dyno. One is a computer error code with the cam position sensor and the other is motor noise that Andrew said had not happened on any of the prior start-ups.

So, he is currently diagnosing what the issue is and hopefully it can be resolved soon and I can get my girl back home. A little sad but I know she is in good hands.

You should easily see 450rwhp w/ a h/c setup on an ls2

Yes, the car was torn down for a second time and everything was double checked by the builder. The lifters were replaced to be extra safe.

I have not seen the car in person yet but the builder is reporting to me the valvetrain noise, while still there, is now within accepted levels. The camshaft position sensor has been replaced and is working properly.

The car should be sitting in my garage this upcoming weekend as the only thing left to do on it at this point is the dyno/street tune.

So this thread should soon be graced with a dyno sheet.

Thumbs up Results!

I got the car back this past weekend and she is running well. She put down numbers right in the range that was expected.

455rwhp/407rwtq

The "go" pedal is a lot more fun now. My clutch on the other hand isn't too happy (stock with 40k). 1-2 aggressive shifts result in some slippage, so that will be next up when I locate some cash.

When I get some time I will be heading back to CSP as the hot start needs a little adjusting to be just right.

As for the issue with the motor noise, it was decided the most likely cause was/is the link-bar lifters.

I will, when time provides, put an idle clip up so that the motor and very nice exhaust note can be heard.

Nice job! More importantly than the dyno numbers, how does it feel overall?

Awesome. I can chug along @1100 rpm with no cam surge. The power is very broad and spread really nicely over the whole RPM range. My Star Specs are actually putting the power to the ground quite nicely. Today I had some spirited runs and there was no tire slippage in 2nd or 3rd, just pulled like a freight train.

Very interesting! On my recent H/C ls2 build I chose rectangle port heads, and put down 454/425! The cathedral port heads make that torque difference?
