Default 2002 z 28 burning a quart every 300 miles

i recently bought a 2002 z 28 with 110000 miles to replace my last one that caught on fire at the track and this engine is burning a lot of oil...about a quart every 300 miles and there is no major leaks. my last ls1 which was all forged and built up never had this problem and i ran it hard and never burned excessive oil. with this engine i have now, i disconected the pcv tube and dumped it with heater hose out the car and there is excessive oil vapor running through it and when i plug the end of my line, i take the oil cap off and its like an eruption of vapor coming through the valve cover. im not sure if its the oil im running..conventional 10w30, but ive never had this problem. if anybody has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know. furthermore, i dont plan on rebuilding this engine because i am freshening my other engine up and swapping it in after im done building it. please help with some ideas...ie...bad rings, cylinder clearance, oil temp, oil type, etc. or should i suck it up and just wait to put my other engine in when its done?

Do a compression test check to make sure you don't have a dead cylinder I'd also work on finding out if your burning or leaking oil do you have blueish smoke coming from your exhaust
