I have my LS7 out of the car, the accessories are off, and the heads are out to get ported. I am switching the cam, intake, and throttle body, and am wondering since I'm just staring at a short block, if I should send it out to get "freshened" while it is so easy. The engine has 7000 mostly street miles, and was bone stock prior to this teardown.

I was thinking of having it sent to a reputable shop, for a bearing check, perhaps a hone, and a piston swap. Am I inventing work, or is this a reasonable/prudent idea?

As reassembled I expect it to be in the neighborhood of 580-610 engine HP.

thx

I'd say it's a waste, unless you can visibly see or hear damage and know the engine was beat on in those 7000 miles.

Otherwise it should be good to go for another 143k just as it sits.
