Cylinder wall deposits - any idea?
Hi all- this is my first time posting in here.
I just took apart an L96 that was said to have 30k on it. Besides having oil a little dirtier than I would have liked, everything looks *relatively* good inside; no crazy depsosits on the valves, no weird stuff on the pick-up/pan and 7 decent cylinder walls.
The pic is the 8th cylinder wall. You can see in the background what most of them look like - minimal wear, hatching present and a small top ring of carbon.
But I'm not sure what's going on in the foreground. I've searched LS1tech and Google for a similar picture of cylinder wall deposits and I can't find any. I haven't picked at it much, but it all is raised/stuck onto the cylinder wall. Also notice that the top 1" or so of the bore looks discolored but not pitted or scored...almost has the color of raw aluminum.
Does anybody have a clue on this? I was really hoping to run this bottom end untouched on a mild build with freshened up LS3 cylinder heads, and then build it down the road. Any suggestions on cleaning this?
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!!
