let me start by saying i'm not sure if this is where this thread belongs. so if it does not feel free to move it to where it does.

My question is this i am looking at a 2007 silverado with a vortec max 6.0. i drove the truck and the power was good but not great i was wondering what exactly is the torque management do? I have heard it derates the fuel for up to 30 secs at full throttle and a bunch of other stuff i just wanna know what it does for sure.

also is there a way to tell under the hood if it is indeed a vortec max. i just wanna make sure it is not just a silverado with a 5.3 and someone just bought the badges for the sides. i look at the little sticker under the hood and it says 6.0 on it but i didn't know if the plastic covers on the engine would say vortec max or not on it.
When i look for pics online some say max and others just say vortec so im not sure which is actually correct.

Also wondering about the transmission it seems to be a 4l70e on some info and 4l60e on others just looking for confirmation on that as well.

Any other little info and details about the truck you guys may have would be greatly appreciated and maybe a correct pic of what the engine would look like would help out greatly.

first mods would be a tune for sure but would the programmers do everything i want it to do or would it be best to get a custom tune?

i see alot of engines online that look like this im not sure if its a newer engine or if those are just aftermarket covers any help would be great

The Vortec MAX is a LQ9 and is, IMO, the engine to have in your truck (if not going Duramax). Here's a thread on another site that seems to explain the details pretty well: http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum...ead.php?t=3851

It is, however, a Gen III engine - not Gen IV.

wow lots of good info appreciate the insight.
does the first engine in my pics look like the one that is in there? i am a big fan of the 6.0 platform especially because i dont buy my own gas. with the 5.3 having oil consumption and engine issues in 07-08 i was steering clear from those. plus the extra power is always nice especially since i just sold my 98t/a

I would look at your RPO codes. I'm not sure where they're located on the trucks, but likely in a door jam or glove box. If it says LQ9 then it's the 6.0 HO. I do not believe the LQ4 was available in a half ton, so you'd likely have a 5.3 otherwise (RPO codes LM7, L59, L33 -- which is the HO 5.3).
