Default lifter tick

Guys,

i start to notice a lifter ticking.
at first no noise at all.
since 3 weeks ago, i noticed a lifter ticking once the engine is hot.
when the engine is cold no noise, engine warms up all fine.
once i shut the engine down when hot and I restart it is ticking.
I sounds to me the left(driverside) bank, if i rev the engine a little bit (2K) its gone.

Now yesterday, engine cold no noise, hot shutdown.
restart and ticking. rev it a bit and it keeps ticking.
I drove for about 20miles, loaded on the trailer let the engine cooldown.
still ticking. it goes away at about 2K revs, but when back to idle still ticking.

I done the oil change last week, cut the filter, noting inside.
Idle oil pressure when hot 35PSI at 900rpm, always been like this.
Valvoline 5W30 full syn.
Engine LS376-525 has less then 1000miles on it.

should i change to a heavier oil?
Or just bad luck that a lifter is failing?

I believe that engine uses the ASA cam. I have the ASA cam installed in a 5.3L and what I found is that stock length push rods are just a little too short to get the right preload on the lifters. I would suggest doing a search and find the thread that describes the method for checking lifter preload and see how much preload you have. I realize that the engine was shipped this way from GM, but my guess is that a slightly longer push rod might be needed.

Hi,

Yep correct ASA cam.
And yes the engine is bone stock.
I will have a look at that procedure, thanks.

yes but today I was going to change the oil so I cut my old filter open and found quite a bit of what looks like small aluminum flakes.. so today I gone ahead and yanked the engine out .. pulled the pan and some rod and main caps .. all looks good on the bottom end. Tommorow I’ll pull the heads and check out the lifters and top end. But something isn’t happy
