Default Modify LS7 oil pan?

Does anyone see why the LS7 oilpan couldn't be modified as follows? Cut part of the bottom of the pan out and weld a plate in so the entire 3/4 of the front of the pan (back to near where the oil filter is) would be about the same depth as the front 1/4 of the pan. I need to do this for X-member clearance as I would prefer to run it as a dry sump and not convert it to wet sump as some have done, I guess.

Jason at Katech sent me some excellent photos and a measurement I needed and, to answer my own question, No, you can't modify the oil pan by cutting the bottom out of it if if you want to run it dru-sump unless you did some very creative plumbing. I'm going to try to modify my BMW X-member instead. I think I'll be able to shoehorn the LS7 in then. Who says tooooo much ***** is bad?

After more evaluation of the photos it appears that it probably wouldn't be too tough to reduce the depth of the pan by 2" with some welding, threading for fittings etc.
