how do i know its a lq4?

*Should* be fairly easy...
The block should be made of iron, with '6.0' cast into it at the back (don't remember which side). Pull a spark plug (or head, if you're ambitious), & look at the pistons. If they have a bit of a dish to them, you're looking at an LQ4 - if they're flat-tops, it's an LQ9. Good luck.
