L83 Harness from Current Performance Wiring
Jared tried very hard to help me trouble shoot the harness over the phone. No luck, so off back to Current Performance my harness and ECM went. Jared told me he will work on it as soon as he gets it. As soon as I get it back I'll report results.
I got good results with my oilpan swap. I'll post my photos soon under a new title :
L83 oilpan swap.
Thank you.

Got lots of help over the phone from Jared at CPW but no luck. I took the harness off and sent it back for more work. As soon as I get it back I'll post results.
My oilpan swap is going well. I'm starting a new post on oilpan swap soon. Here is a preview :

Hello. Glad to inform you that my harness came back from Jared at Current Performance Wiring. The problem was simple, the ECM was programed for a Corvette pedal, I have the truck pedal. That was enough to trigger a no start condition. After installing the harness with the correct program, the engine started right away.
Jared change my oil level sensor plug to the Corvette plug (I swapped my oilpan to the Corvette pan). Also I asked him to add 2 extra wires for after market oil and temperature sensors.
Now we have to figure out how to get speed and tach signals from this set up. All suggestions are welcome.

sweet thread. Any updates yet. I am planning on doing something like this in the near future but i want to use a T56 magnum trans and L83 on a second gen camaro.
mzrico: Does the camaro LT1 pan fit? the corvette pan is pricy
Also, has any one tried the ICT billet motor mounts and the accessories mount kit (especially power steering). They look reasonable.
has the vacuum lines worked?
Anyone with headers?

I used the ICT Billet Motor Mount adapters for my 72 El Camino, the Camaro SS pan worked for my swap, the K member had to be trimmed a little. Dirty Dingo is what I used for the front end accessory drive. I used a Chevy Performance ECM and harness. I went with an Auto 4L65E, so I had to use a separate TCU. With a manual, you don't need to have a TCU. Not sure if the vacuum works on the truck manifold, I went with hydroboost.

Thanks for the info...
What about fuel lines, tank and pressure? I am interested in knowing how the fuel is delivered from the tank to the on motor high pressure pump. According to chevy performance LT1, "A fuel flow rate of 45 gph at 72 psi (500 kPa) is needed". Also in the chevy performance harness kit, Fuel Line Pressure Sensor, Fuel Pump Power Module are provided. So where do these go and in the L83 engine do you have similar mechanisms?
Also from reading, the L83 is short, height wise, and would fit under the hood with no clearance issues.
Anybody using dirty dingo engine mounts and ICT billet accessories? ICT billet seems cheaper than dirty dingo...

The fuel line pressure sensor is mounted inline with your fuel line from your pump to the fuel rail. The Fuel Pump Power Module is mounted as close to your fuel pump
"The Fuel Pump Power Module should be mounted as close to the fu el pump as practical and the wires powering the fuel pump
must remain twisted. If additional length is needed, maintain a twist of 27 turns per meter or 8 per foot to ensure adequate
protection from Electromagnetic Interference with the rest of the vehicle (i.e. radio and other control modules). The Fuel Pump
Power Module is fully sealed and can be mounted in any orientat ion but best practices should be maintained (i.e. away from heat
sources, maintain adequate clearance to moving parts, maintain adequate ground clearance, connector pointed in a downward
direction to prevent water intrusion etc). look up Corvette mounting for connector orientation)"
I used a Camaro ZL1 fuel pump, same as a Corvette. Restomod tanks (Ricks Tanks) is where I got my El Camino tank. These tanks have a provision to use this pump. They are supposed to come out with a 70-73 F body tank in december 16, but I'm sure there are other tank/pump combos you can use.
My L83 does clear the hood on my El Camino, but since the throttle body points up a little, the shop had to notch the hood a little bit to clear the air intake tube.

Also do you think its better to use the chevy performance LT1 Crate Engine Control System module or go through the a place to mod your wiring harness etc. What's your take? Do you think one is better than other? Did you have any problems with the chevy performance? or was it just plug and play?
