REASONABLE Installer in San Diego
I just got quoted $800 bucks to drop a stereo into my car
JUST THE INSTALLATION..this cant be right.
I'm installing a Pioneer F900BT into my C5..Ive already got a double din bezel... so the only fabrication that's requires to to cut the stock tabs for the current 1.5 din and fab two new tabs for the new unit....

I know the job is a PITA..that's why I'm trying to find someone else to do it...
I may be simplyfying it a bit but its being done by "Proffesionals" which have the correct tools and previous experience:
1. Dissassemble the stock bezel
2. Remove HVAC and stock HU
3. Remove and reattach brackets
4. Run camera wires
5. Attach new HU sing GMCRV2
6. Test operation of HU
7. Hang and center HU and HVAC
8. Ask to be paid...
I figure 4-5 hours for me to do the above..3-4 for a shop at 60 bucks an hour thats 180 to 240 bucks...

I got my deck installed for $50 with a custom made brushed aluminum dash kit by my local audio shop. People quoting prices like this should be shot cause they are outright ripping people off.
Hell I only paid $800 for my entire sound system including a amp install, my mids, highs with components, price of amp for my mids/highs & a custom sub box all installed. I already had my deck & sub.
$800 for just a deck install is highway robbery any way you try to look at it.

No good installer will be scared to install on any car. If they are then they aren't worth goin to & they are scared b/c they know the quality of their work isn't up to par with what would be expected on that kinda car.
The shop I use here does installs on everything from a Escort to a Porshe without issue. And pricing is great. All he asks is that you put out word on the street if your happy with his work. Needless to say they are usually booked up b/c his quality is great.
For example when I went to get my stuff installed in this car he wouldn't let me have the car when I showed up. There was a small issue & he wouldn't let the car leave the shop until it met his standards which are very high. I had let him do my other car also so he knows me & offered his wifes personal car so I could go to dinner with my wife & promised when I returned it would be finished up. Needless to say I will never use another shop in this town b/c he goes above & beyond to make his customer happy & do quality work.

Just for $hits and giggles I stopped over at Best Buys..they quoted me 200 bucks....thats the ball park I was looking for.
Installing a double din in a vette takes a bit of fabbing, step #3 above...but most of the heavy stuff , creating the bezel is already done...

200 is actually what i charged for the last one. honestly talk to the bestbuy installer ask to see pics of his work and feel him out, some of the installers are good and know there stuff, most ppl assume they are all highschool dropouts

Yea, but hell if your gonna do the fab work man honestly you can go to a shop & buy a harness & maybe only do a couple crimps & be done. Then your only out parts cost. Unless you just really really don't wanna mess with it.
I have done all my recent interior projects & it has involved some wiring. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. I was honestly a little intimidated at first but just dove in & finished way sooner than I thought I could.
Plus then you get the satasfaction of doin it yourself & not getting screwed on a install price.

if ur stuck on having retained accessory power then you need one but most ppl skip it. And just wire the radio to be ignition controlled, so when you turn the key off it goes off. In all honesty if the splicing of the harness is together you can send em to me and ill wire it all up for ya and then literally u plug it all in with the exception of maybe 1 wire
