Show room stock racing cam? Work in daily driver?
I was just wondering if this cam would work in a daily driver. Found it on Pace Parts. Linky Its spected out at 239/251-570/570-106. If I got the specs right this thing must idle like crazy. Im guessing a cam this big would only work in a big cube motor. Anybody wanna put there 2 cents in?

A number of people? I've only heard of one guy who had it in his Z06 down in Texas. What lift are LS6 springs rated to? Even with slow ramps, I think that kinda lift is pushing it.

I talked to the guys at Scoggs and Dickey. They have it in a few cars around there. They told me most of them with heads dyno in the 485 rwhp range. He told me they have to drive around at 22-2500 or it will surge like crazy. I've also seen one claim of it in a f-body that made 465 rw on a mustang dyno, he claims over 500 rw on a dyno jet. All of these cars were running the GMPP CNC LS-6 heads, which were designed to run with this cam.

Wow,
That's some mad power on a stock bottom end! I don't know what it is, but these engines even on stock cubes seem to be able to take more and more cam and still respond favorably (at the expense of driveability of course.) I wonder what this cam would do on more aggressively ported LS6 heads (although I know the cam is matched to the CNC heads...)

I think GM also says on their site that they use a special PCM set up for racing on this type of equipment.
LS6 springs.......they must have at least .060 clearance before coil bind on this cam or GM would not use them and they buzz the crap out of those motors. The LS6 spring is very underrated by most.
Also, I find it strange that a Computer cannot control this type of cam as I have used similar cams back in the old Carburator days and they idled around 750-850 rpm.

How do you think this thing would act(rpm range, idle rpm) in say a 409ci motor???

Ed wright has a program for this combination. From what I have heard, the cam hits HARD. The computer can control it, but just like the old days, you will lose major streetability due to the large amount of overlap. 106 LSA/33 degrees of total overlap

Im considering this cam for my car its not really gonna be a daily driver more like a car thats driven occasionaly on the street. That sucks that only Ed Wright has a program for it cause he locks his damn programs.

How hard do you think it would be for somebody like Speed Inc. to tune this cam? I have a weekend warrior street car, so driveability isnt that much of an issue. But I still want it to be able to idle at a reasonable RPM.

well anyone with a good amount of experience (just about everyone that sponsers this board) has the ability to tune any cam. now for street mannors, forget it. Neither Ed Wright nor any tuner out there will make it smooth or even street worthy IMO. It makes no sense that only Ed Wright has the program secret i would MUCH rather have someone in person tune the car than a generic tune.
