Default Rear/Tranny Feels Weird - Look Inside

Hey guys,

So I was driving the car about 5 mins ago. It's been a little over a week since i've had it out so I wanted to open it up a little. I dropped my A4 into 1st, and hauled *** down a road, 1-2-3-D. I left it in drive from there. I noticed when i was pulling away from a stop sign, in between the high rpm for 1st gear (in drive) shifting to the next gear, the car sounded kinda weird and my gas pedal was vibrating more than usual. When I gave it some gas outta 1st gear (still in drive) it vibrated more as I gave more gas, and I thought i heard a slight noise as all this was going on. Is this my tranny or the rear?

What did I do?

Anyone have any ideas? I'm almost afraid for my car, it was kinda like a grinding noise/feeling the first time it happened

Can you be more specific about the noise? Is it a high pitched whining noise when you tap the gas at 40+ mph? Where does the noise seem to be coming from?

I didn't pay too much attention to it as I was right near my house and just went home. It wasn't a high pitched whine, the first time it happened I heard like a semi-deep "ERRR." every other time my gas pedal really started shaking almost and it almost felt like metal on metal, but thats just to say what it felt like, I have no idea. I'm not sure where it came from, i'll drive the car tomorrow and see if it's still doing it. It only happened from 1st to 2nd though

Sounds like your tranny to me. I had something similar to what your describing, ended up being the input drum and my 2-3 was grinding. I also wouldnt every really shift manually with a 4l60e, its stronger when you put it in D anyways. The only time I might use it is to downshift into 2nd or 3rd at low rpms and I dont want to go WOT

Does the tranny shift smooth? Listen for each shift, and also when you drive it at highway speeds listen for a high pitched whine everytime you tap the throttle
