Default MLS or solid copper?

I.m building a forged bottom end for about 15 to 20 pound of boost. I pushed the factory gaskets (MLS) out on my stock bottom end. Are the after market MLS gasket stronger than factory or should I go with solid copper? Whats the pros and cons of either. Any sponsers input wil be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it wasnt very happy with the octane you were running and/or the tune.

Pushing steel MLS gaskets is quite the accomplishment and detonation cylinder pressure spikes is what highly likely made that happen....

I dont like copper gaskets from the standpoint of coolant leaks and longevity....especially on a blown application where the heads are a little more likely to lift and move around.

I can only assume your already running studs (you should be)....I would personally give the MLS another shot....but take a closer look at the tune and possibly increase your octane as well. Make sure your running a recessed cold race plug as well....you dont need that sparkplug to act as a glowplug when its dealing with the heat of sustained WOT boosted conditions.

Hope this helps...

Thanks Tony for the input. I will retune and add intercooler and meth injection on my new setup. I'm sure that had a lot to do with my problems. Any suggestion on brands for 4.060 bore and about .060 to .065 thick Gasket? I was looking at those Titan or Cometic for copper but I don't know about MLS (maybe cometic or fel-pro).

The factory gasket for a 6.2 will likely do the best for you. I think 15 psi plus without the help of a good intercooler is asking for trouble..........

I may be wrong but if you go copper i think you will have to o-ring the head or the block or the copper wont seal.
