Default Deck interface adapter?

I bought a Pioneer Avic-F900 today for the GXP. Now I know the OnStar has something to do with the factory deck, but I think I remember the door chimes and other things also depend on the deck. For those of you with GXP's with aftermarket decks did you guys have to use an interface box to keep the door chime and what not? I'm not worried about keeping OnStar at all.

Actually more like, is it a necessity? And how difficult is it to bypass the dvd play block while driving?

I have the PAC in my SS to retain chimes and OnStar.

As far as the bypass, it was pretty simple with the Avic-D3, not sure if the same procedure works on the new F series. Check out www.avic411.com there's alot of great info there if you need additional help.
