Where do I put rev limit on 224/228 581 112 cam?
Just got it back from having that cam and ASP pulley installed. Had 4.10's installed the day before. I love it. Idle settles in immediately at about 800 rpms. Did not drill TB. Questioning the operating range. I ran up to about 6100-6200 and it nosed off rather abruptly. Felt like valve spring float. I have the Scoggin Dickey Rev valve springs. It pulls like a mad man now though. I'm thinking 6200 is it. OBTW< I do have stock manifolds, cats, and catback, but it doesn't seem like that would cause that abrupt of a loss.

Thing with that cam is it needs good exhaust setup to really shine with the extra duration on the exhaust side. Yes, your stock exhaust setup will be a large bottleneck in my opinion. I belive my rev limiter is set at 6300, (via HPP3). Its plenty.

Stang Killer
Please explain or elaborate why or how the tach isn't correct after a cam installation.
And if so, how to correct it.

When you increase the HP of the engine the tach tends to lag particularly in first gear. What frequently happens is that the tach will read like 6,000 RPM's but you're actually at 6,200 RPM's bouncing off the rev limiter. Get an exhaust system and that cam will scream.

Cool. I guess I'll see what happens with a catback. Looking for a used borla adjustable. Damn does it rip at low rpms.. I have the Scoggin Dickey rev valve springs. Sure felt like valve float, wonder if anyone else has felt this. Has anyone had their's tuned on a dyno with a Predator? I can really smell raw fuel at idle.

I posted on PCM about the rev limiter. It has two sets of rev limits, one says on the other says off. I didn't have the set for off set to 6600 so I went through and set the rev limit to 6600 for 1-6 gears in the on and off sections. Hopefully that will fix it up.

The factory tach is kinda slow. This isn't so noticable with a slow reving stock car but add alot of power and throw in some numerically higher gears (like 4.10s) and see what happens. Your RPMs climb so fast (the lower the gear you're in, obviously, the faster) the tach can't keep up. It can make it appear that your rev limit is at 5900 in first gear when it's really at 6250. In D it will appear to be closer to what it really is since the RPMs are climbing much slower.
A 112 LSA's power will fall off quicker after the HP peak that say a 115 LSA. You feel a stronger rise of power in the midrange with the narrower LSA but then you feel it fall on it's face sooner after the HP peak.
Valve float will certainly cause a very abrupt loss of power.

My last two Z's I saw 6500 so I thought I would on this one. It's definitely not valve float. I had only tried it in 3rd gear, where the fuel shut off isn't as brutal as in 1st or 2nd. I turned it up in 2nd and got that "dut dut dut dut" from the engine fuel shut off. Maybe I could get someone to ride and have the Predator on real time readings and see what it shows.

I set my rev limit at 6600 on both sections of gears and still can't get near 6600. The instructions don't say much.
