Default Cleaning under heads, and in combustion chambers.

Can I spray the sea foam engine cleaner in this area and just scrub it off? Would it be unwise to use brass wool? If a little bit of dirt gets where the pushrods are is it a big deal? There is still reminants of the old head gaskets as well.

This is the area I'm cleaning... waiting for my engine rebuild books to get here and to get an engine stand

I would wait untill you get a stand and strip it down to a bare block. Then take it to a car wash that has hot hi pressure guns and soak it in degreaser and blast away. If the block is iron a brass tooth brush will be ok just dont scrub the head gasket materal off the decks, use and green scotch brite and gently scrape with a razor blade. When your all done washing I would blow off the engine and all the bolt holes with compressed air, and then dump alittle oil on a rag and wipe the cylinder walls with it so they dont rust for honing.
