Default Low coolant light...lots of coolant... ??????

When the car warms up to operating temp the coolant light comes on and stays on until I shut it down. Plenty of fluid in the radiator and lots in the reservoir. Car does not overheat. What could be the problem? Thanks

just unplug it, it's located on the passenger side of the radiator.

do a search and check for power steering cooler leak. PS fluid in the radiator will cause the sensor to give a false coolant low light.

I took off the radiator cap. Did not look like there is any oil in it. Should I see an oily mess?

They were problematic, GM took them off at one point - maybe in 2000. I know the 01/02 cars don't have one.

My original sensor worked fine for 10 years , probably would have lasted longer had I not taken the radiator off installing a cam

I looked up the coolant sensor. I see it's a small black box. Is there another piece inside the radiator? Can that sensor be cleaned.....like with electrical parts cleaner?

pull the wire connector then remove the little clip and it pulls right out. it has an o-ring seal. I have washed and cleaned mine after being contaminated with PS fluid and it worked .

IMO, If I went through the trouble of taking a 10 year old low coolant sensor, I would not clean it. I'd replace it with a new one from autozone for a couple of bucks or just unplug it.

I did the one on my 99 just recently, and my 2002 did not come with one.

I had the same symptoms and it was a bad coolant level sensor. If you are going to go to the trouble to partially drain the radiator to get the thing out, you'll probably want to have a spare sensor ready to go if you find your old one is clean! (At 10 years, you're due for a new one. My 99 lasted me just over 9 years and 80K.)
