Fastest street legal car... and it has an LT1!!!
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/loc...895,full.story
OK, it doesn't have an LT1 I'm sorry BUT I got your attention!
Yet I AM curious if anyone knows what the most powerful mostly LT1 is. That is, not converted SBC heads and still MPFI. Any intake will be fine though, and it doesn't have to use the Opti still, but it'd be cool Do we have one that breaks the 1,000hp mark? 1,500? I know our sticky has a lot of numbers in it, but none are in the insane range like this. In my time being here, I only slightly remember one car that I think was into the 900-1000hp mark, but that was only due to the bottle :\
I think it's interesting to note, for anyone who didn't read the article, is that his car makes 2400hp and still pulls off 10mpg on pump gas heh Mind you, some states have a HP limit on the road, or used to, not sure if that is still something they'd ticket you for, so obviously it's not a multi-state street legal heh Fact remains it's an impressive feat!

AI has a customer making over 1000 at the wheels with their 200cc GM heads and turbo boost, don't know much about it, think it is a 355.
Jeff Green has a badass 96 Impala with a Donovan aluminum block converted to everything LT1 topped with AFR 227 434ci a blower and a small shot of juice to cool it. Trap speeds indicate north of 900rwhp. Sick bastard still uses the opti, 4L60E 8.5" 10 bolt, GM computer, hydraulic roller and about everything else than "wont work" at that level. The AC is still there as are the power options windows seats and such. Been to the PGD twice but broke.

Wow! Wicked cool car! I've heard that money doesn't buy happiness but, if your into 1000hp + cars, you better have alot of it!
Its really hard to surprise me anymore though with what someone can do with any car given the right budget and know-how. Now, if they make a THUNDERHAWK version of the camaro, I'd crap my pants.

That's a pretty cool article. I don't have anything to add as to fast lt1's, but I remember reading an article on this twin turbo trans am that was like the fastest car in europe or something. They had it to like 260-270 something on the autobahn. Rediculous

All these top speed records were closed course, probably oval track, like the Sledgehammer. That's right, check out #7 TPI POWA! (OK even if it is a radically re-designed TPI, more resembling a long-runner LT1. And just some Sledgehammer backstory if you're bored.)

My car made 1100rwhp...all Lt1, with more to go......problem is these motors don't last long at these power levels.....kind of a waste of money to build them up..... At the 900rwhp it will last a summer...maybe.

Is it due to them being punched out so much? Why can't you run a more reliable cyl wall thickness and have the system tweaked around the boost (I assume you were boosting?), like the Sledgehammer motor was. 880hp on 'mild' 22psi that was able to go higher (which they did and estimated at around 950hp), while still being a very mild mannered motor with streetability.

Hmm, I'd have to see documentation to believe any car doing over 230mph on an open road (open IE with traffic, as apposed to closed road or a drag strip).

I may have been a bit off at the potential top speed; I don't know what 435km/h converts too. Been a while since I had read it.
