------NeeD Help------
I just bought an 02 ws6 6spd about two weeks ago. Everything seemed ok until this morning. I started my car and it was idling at 2500rpms, I tapped the gas and it jumped to 4000 and held there for about 5 secs and then dropped to 1800. I let the car get up to temp before I started driving. And when I left the car jumped back to 2000 and stayed there the whole way home. When I was at red lights the rpms would eventually drop down to 1300-1500. But would go right back after I pulled out. It was 20 Degrees out but its been that cold every morning I started it so far.

Make sure youre throttle blade is moving nice and smoothly through its whole range of travel and there is nothing jamming it, I had one get stuck wide open one time on me because it was older and gunked up, not a good feeling. Could also be a mass air flow sensor, know anybody around you that could swap with you quick? It only takes a couple of minutes. make sure the throttle cable itself moves freely on its own too (in and out of the plastic sleeve)

i would think if it were a vacuum leak then it would be unmetered air and the engine would run horrible when under a load and most likely throw the SES light.
A stuck open idle air control valve, or one that won't fully close, is not unmetered air I don't think and the computer knows what position its in so everything will run fine with the exception of the high idle.
also check the cabling going to the throttle body, it's unlikely but the the throttle plate may not be closing all the way either. those are the only two things i can think of to cause the condition you describe, and still have the engine run well and not throw a code.
