Default ls7 block dipstick..

using a wet sump system on a ls7 block...i know i need to drill a hole at the correct angle for this does anyone have any pics ? At what angle is it drilled..is there a boss on the block for a guide to the right location?

Yeah, theres a spot to drill the hole, but you need a special jig to drill at the correct angle.

Default LS7 Dipstick for Wet Sump

There's a boss on the case for the dipstick.

I used my V's LS6 engine as the guide for the angle since I was going to have to use a V-specific oil pan/windage tray/pickup tube and dipstick assembly on the LS7.

The LS6 had a stepped hole which I duplicated in the LS7 case by using a drill guide made from some scrap metal, using the larger part of the tube hole as an index (since it is deeper) and securing the guide to the oil pan rail on the case to get final alignment.

With all this said, you could probably do it freehand (by using an angle finder) if you're careful.
