check the springs and pushrods first!, I just had this happen on another engine of mine, not the ls1, but I thought it wuz a collapsed lifter and after tearing apart the top end I found it wuz a broken spring, it wuz #7 exhaust way in the back so I couldnt see it very clearly! do you know what cyl. your problem is on?

When mine went - it was very noticable. What started off as a tick like an exhaust leak turned into a TAP that sounded like metal on metal.

My SBC had a collapsed lifter. It was easy to spot which one, because if you pull the valve cover the pushrod will sit lower than the rocker arm and not make contact. Might as well do this, so you can check for broken springs or bent pushrods in the process.

With a collapsed lifter, won't there be a bad misfire?

The car's not showing any misfires on Autotap. I had the valvecovers off & went over each valvespring with a mirror and didn't see anything...pushrods are fine. So I was thinking that maybe a lifter was dirty, going bad or possibly colapsed
