Default What's the best way of changing oil after car sitting over winter?

I thought it would be better if I didn't start the car after having it sit for 6 months and have the gunk with the oil splattered all around the engine again, as gravity would have pulled all the crap into the oil pan for me to clean out.

My buddy says instead that I should start the car so that the oil is warm when I change it, and that my worries that the gunk will be recirculated into the engine are not justified.

What do you think?

the oil filter will catch any junk. I always understood changing the oil while it was warm will remove more contaminants rather than when they are cold and dont flow as well

Just let it drain overnight, takes awhile to get everything out when it's cold.
