Default Oil pressure all over the place....help

Hey,

01 forumula WS6.
Start the car up and oil pressure goes to 40psi and goes up when the engine is reved. Start to slip the clutch a little to back the car out and the pressure drops 5-10 psi. Start driving the car and all is well. Stop, then go again and the pressure drops to 0 for a sec then comes back up, then 30 sec later it drops to zero and stays there, lifters get loud was about to shut it down then it goes back to 40 psi and all is well back to the house.

Any ideas? Oil pump? Clogged pick up?

Sounds like bearings, either cam, rod or main... What mods were done to the engine? Look at the dipstick and see if you can see any flakes or metal particles in the oil.

Ya I was kinda thinking that maybe the issue. The guy that ownes this thing isnt going to be to happy. He had a H/C/I motor that was making 440, it lost a lifter so that motor was removed. He then picked up a 50K mile ls1 and had someone drop it in so he could sell the car and get a 08 zo6. He had me fix a few small things on it for him, then all of a sudden the oil pressure goes nuts. Guess this will be the 3rd rebuild I do for someone in the past 3 weeks.

It is not uncommon at all for the oil pumps on these motors to dump. Especially the earlier ones. That is why everybody upgrades the OP when they swap cams. That is what it sounds like to me.......

I was thinking that as well, I have just never seen an oil pump have a slow death like that, they usually just die. It is an earlier motor so I am not ruling out the pump, just would hate to replace it and then still have the problem.
