Some of the blocks do not require cutting. Mine did and it wasnt really a big deal. Just use a dremel and a small cut off wheel (buy a few). Be sure to block off all openings in the block and tape the heads off so no metal shavings get in there and clean up really well. LS1Howto.com has a decent write up on it with tons of pictures.

if your doing it to prevent oil in your intake...dont bother...lots of people have had mixed results...and mostly still have oil in the intake....run a catch can upgrade to the newer pcv valve or totally remove the pcv system and run breathers(worst option i think....its going to stink

No. Not worth it at all IMO.

**** can the PCV system entirely and run breathers. Thats what I'm starting to do on all my motor builds and it works fine. And no more oil in the intake.

i had a catch can on the old set up, and it filled up quite regularly. I have the ls6 set up now and it has only gathered a little oil. Short answer yes, it's one of the best set ups for the ls1's

So what's the 'newer pcv valve'? Is it a GM part or aftermarket?

The newer GM pcv valve has no moving parts, no check ball. It just has a small 'air metering hole' at the back.
