Default Oil pump replacement fitment question

I came across an old Horsepower TV spot "LS Gund" They were saying that when you replace the stock oil pump that you need to take the cover off the new oil pump take out the gyro and clearance it 2 thou around the crank shaft.

All the new oil pumps and LS Based Books I have see do not say anyting about this.

is this step needed???

When I put my tsp ported ls6 pump on I slid the pump over the crank and put all 4 bolts in loose and then torqued them down. Have never had any oil pressure problems.

If this were necessary, it would be in the GM service manual or a TSB. It is not. Unless there is a chance of the oil pump body contacting the drive I don't see the logic in this although a number of people feel it should be done.
