Default VSS issue

I understand that the PCM needs to read the vehicle speed in order to fine tune the advance and mixture. On the LSX cars that info is pulled from a sensor in the transmission. How do those without an LSX box get the info to the PCM?

Honestly it seems that a lot of people using a older trans run without a VSS.

There are a couple ways though. Tap an ABS sensor if its a new car (note this will render the ABS inoperative) Or put an external sensor on (you can put one on the differential, in the older trans, or even inline with the speedometer cable). You just need a sine wave AC sender. Check out jags that run for some ideas, they have the VSS chapter of their guide available for a free download.
