Pinion seal leak
I had some seepage before coming from the pinion seal an didnt think much of it because i read it was normal but now i see oil is getting thrown underneath the car so now i want to change it. I did a search but now im even more confused. I thought i could just get a new seal and be good but now im seeing some people are getting the wrong seals for thier rear ends. 2 piece seals? still leaking after install? using older 7.5" 10 bolt seals? Different part numbers for different years? can anyone shed some light on this subject, i know its been beat to death but i just want a straight answer. 2000 TA stock 10 bolt pinion seal leak-how do i fix it?

2000 and back should have the one piece seal. 01 and up has the 2 piece IIRC. my car needed the 2 piece and no auto parts stores had it. i went to the chevy dealership and they had some in stock. it was less then $10. Also i have noticed most rebuild kits come with the earlier style, hence the reason i needed one.
Oriellys has it listed as first design or second design

this is according to the gm service manual it said crush seal not required you, first mark the nut before removing then put it back to the mark and tighten 1/16 of a inch more

Yeah no need to recrucsh a new sleeve. Please put some red lock-tite back on the pinion nut so it wont back itself off over time. Just mark it like stated and put it back just a hair tighter. When it seats on the crush sleeve you will know it. The nut will get very tight very quick.
