Default Working stock heads?

What benefit would I get from working over the stock heads on my car? I have an '01 SS and have been trying to figure out a good way to get some more n/a power while building the car to eventually handle boost.

Would the factory heads be strong enough to handle any such actions? Or should I just buy new heads all together? Any thoughts?

What do you think the difference is between Factory heads and new replacements? Reworking LS1 heads is a job for experienced head porters and machinists.
