T-56 clutch swap is a PITA
This is not my first clutch swap, but it is my first on an F-body.Everything went smooth up until it was time to remove the transmission.I am aware it is a pull type clutch.I used a transmission jack to support the transmission and proceeded to attempt to pull it out.Come to find out the clutch release fork bolt was what was keeping me from removing the transmission. In the write up I printed off it said to pull on the release fork to remove it.It said nothing about a hard bolt to get on to remove the fork(lol). After 7 long hours of work I finally got the transmission out and will be installing my new clutch set tomorrow.(Just a fair warning if you have never removed a T-56 before it isnt the easiest transmission to remove). The first couple hours was easy up until the clutch release fork.

clutch release fork??? What's this t56 in? The only problem I had was tryin to get it separated from the motor when both were outta the car on the ground. I think it was cuz it hadn't ever been pulled and it was seized on the dowels...

if this is an lt1 trans... all you have to do is lightly pull down on the clutch fork and it will disengage from the throwout bearing.. im lost on this bolt you're talking about

I think you are referring to the release bearing/throwout bearing. The pilot bearing is centered in the crankshaft.I am working on an LT1 clutch set,and I did try to just slide it out,and so did three other people. It just was not going to happen.Instead there is a bolt in the center of the clutch fork that I had to remove.Like I said I have never encountered this issue before.Bottom line is I got the transmission out after a few hours of frustration with the clutch release fork. One other thing that caught my eye was the the reverse lockout solenoid was not hooked up either.

The clutch fork wouldn't pull out of the trans like 3 inches? I just pulled mine the other day, all you have to do is wiggle the fork to get it off the throwout and then it won't stop you from pulling the trans off. How did you even get that bolt out without the trans seperated from the bellhousing??
