Default Speedometer calibration Error

I have a Stewart Warner speedometer that worked fine with my LS1. The LS1 put out roughly 4000 ppr ( pulse per revolution ? ) in one mile. My new engine, L92 with a GM harness E67 pcm only puts out about half of that. I'm using the same transmission an 01 F-body T56.

So here is the dilemma, the speedo will only work correctly in the range of 4,000 - 200,000 ppr's. Is there a way I can modify the circuit to correct this? Can I run the speedo directly off of the high side of the trans sensor? I have already tried the low side and it did nothing.

Thanks

Any tuner can adjust the speedo output to match just about whatever number you want.

your e67 pcm is likely expecting a 40 pulse per driveshaft rev sensor. your t56 will have 17, just under HALF, this would explain your low reading.

I don't know about your speedo, but autometer speedo's work off the high signal directly from the speed sensor.

Hmmm I'm wondering if there will be drivability issues with the incorrect pcm input? I guess I'll find out, I'm leaving for the Hrpt long haul tomorrow. Last night I decided to drive 2 miles to get enough ppr's, then just remember 30 mph is actually 60. The funny thing is while doing it, I thought, hey dummy the gps unit will give me speed.

The Stewart Warner guage unlike the Autometer will not use either the low or high sensors raw outputs.

I'm assuming I can also change the reluctor for the sensor?

^^^ An easier solution would be to leave the VSS/PCM circuit @ reluctor alone so that there are no related issues in that area & then install a Dakota Digital spedo claibration unit. They are or were around $70-$80 bucks a couple of years ago & are a very simple piggyback add on. Can tie in either between the VSS & PCM or PCM & speedo, as you choose. Good-luck
