Default 4.8/5.3 overbore

Hey dudes, how far can you safely overbore a 2001 4.8/5.3l block, without ultrasonic testing or anything crazy like that?? I have a 4.8L complete engine and want to build a 408-ish motor.

you can bore it out to the 5.7L bore 3.9" but not to the 6L bore of 4". with 3.9 bore and 4" stroke you can get 383

So you willl spend thousands on a stroker rotating assembly, and not pay $400 for a 6.0L block??

Thanks for the replies. Im sorry I wasnt a little more clear in my intentions.

I was just asking to see if it was even an option, a little pre-planning if you will.

Also, where I live, 6.0L blocks are NOT found for $400. A decent entire engine must normally be purchased, and basement price on that is usually around $2000, from wreckers.

In Canada prices are different, and its harder lots of times to get the prices you guys get. A fresh 6.0L block right from GM there is like $5-700, here its like $1500. Not very fair.

On top of this, all "LS1/LS6" engines get hoarded by an Fbody 'speciallist' that absolutely rapes people for them. He usually charges $6-8000 for a LS1/T56. Which is absolute insanity.

And besides, I mentioned that I was curious about building a 408ish motor, which no matter what block I use, 4.8/5.3 or a 6.0, Ill have to "spend thousands on a stroker rotating assembly" anyways.
