How do I replace the evaportator?
Well, $1000 later (A/C compressor, new dryer, new condesnor, etc...) my A/C starts blowing hot two days after I get it from Firestone.
I take it back in, they said they had flushed it but my compressor had blown out really bad and there was debris all through the system, may have still been some in there.
They reflush it, replace oraphice (sp) tube again, recharge it. They say if it does it again I will have to replace the evaporator myself (they won't do it) and bring it back for a free tube and recharge...
SO, you can guess what happened by the title of the thread...
Where is it exactly (is it what is on the firewall)? What do I have to do to pull to get to it (do I have to pull dash from inside?)?
Thanks...

Yes, it's the box on the firewall - you take the box apart to replace the evaporator. The evaporator is the A/C equivalent of a heater core, as in that where the heat is removed from the air that blows in your face.

I'm going by what Alldata says about it, and I found a little problem with their info. They don't talk about pulling the dash in their section on it, but based on the time allowed by them (over 6 hours) I'd say you WILL have to pull the dash. Sorry for the goof!

Do yourself a big favor and find a better shop. If the compressor really came apart and pushed garbage all through the system you will need to install a filter in the high pressure line before the Orifice tube. They make them that install with compression fittings. It will catch all the crap before it blocks the orifice tube screen.
Most good ac shops do this to save the agravation you are going through. read over this page....its what you need http://autoacrepairs.com/ac_in_line_filter.htm

I looked it up on alldata as well, and your right about it not showing pulling the dash. The only problem is to access the evaporator you need to pull it through the interior with the dash removed, unless im mistaken. I still cant believe they did all that work with replacing the evap. Ill give u a call tomorrow Mark I got a price on the part from my supplier.

I took it here to just pay and not worry for once. I told them replace whatever you need to to make sure it is done right an warrantied. ******* then pull this "we can't replace that, you have to do it yourself" bull **** and you know later they'll say it isn't warrantied because I did it...

Good lord man, you paid 1000 dollars and it doesn't sound like your issue was ever actually diagnosed properly. How bout trying another shop? Its rather that, or start yankin the dash. There really isn't much to GM car interiors as long as you remember what went where. Plastic non-marring prybars help a lot too.

6liter, your a sponsor!!! your supposed to take it to another sponsors shop and have them do it for you and give them some free parts in exchange!!. Im sure someone more reputable here would have done it better and possibly cheaper.
