Default rattling noise

I have this weird rattling noise when im sitting idling.. It sounds like its something in the exhaust and it just rattles around.. What can it be? Cat is falling apart?

Get the whole car up on stands, start the engine and get underneath the car. You haven't given enough information for anybody to even attempt an educated guess.

I had this noise, and it was making me nuts. I thought it was the cats, but when I removed them, I found the problem - the O2 sensor outer casings were rattling.

I pinched the case with a pair of pliers, and the rattling is gone. Could have done it on the car without removing the cats.

If you attempt this, be careful. O2's are very fragile internally.

Hope you get lucky too.

Not much else to say. When its in idle and you rev it up to about 1200-1500ish rpms it sounds like a nail in a coffee can.. Its annoying the hell out of me

If it's that loud it could be a piece of the cat guts broken off rattling around somewhere in your exhaust.

Tap a low spot on the exhaust (including the muffler) with a 2 X 4 to pinpoint location of offending noise.

+1 for the cat. Had it happen to a car before, sounded like a rattling nail in a tin can at idle. Replaced the cat, no more sound
