New T/A owner...got a question.
Hey guys. I picked up a Pewter 02 T/A WS6 w/ 12k miles this week. I Love this car! Its got a hurst short shifter, muffler delete, and K&N open filter.
Just got a question...the guy told me that they put LS6 heads on a certain number of T/As and that this was one of them. How can you tell if they are LS6 heads?? Is there a certain number that i should be able to see??
Thanks guys. Pics will be coming soon.

Yeah 01 and 02 came with the LS6 intake and no EGR. Heads should have 241 stamped on them. A small percentage came with a LS6 block, maybe that's what he was referring to. The casting number is located on the drivers side left hand deck above the transmission flange (12561168).

Ok damn. Thanks for lettin me know...i hate not knowin for sure whats done to a car.
But what is a cheap way to get some power outta these cars? Besides a lid? Does tuning help the LS1s a lot. Sorry for all the questions...ive only been around stangs my whole life. Now i got both and need to learn about this car lol.

thats cool i learned something new. i didnt know they came with the heads as well. thats pretty interesting. anyways yea tuning helps the car. i would buy a set of long tubes and the y-pipe and a cat back first before you tune it though. to me its not worth paying a couple hundred dollars to have your car tuned than have to take it again after doing the headers and exhaust. im sure you will be very happy with the car after a header install

241 and 853 are the same they are both ls1 casting head ls6 casting number is 243 and NO f body came stock with 243 heads some 02s had the ls6 block and all ls1s after 2001 had the ls6 intake so unless someone changed the heads on his car they are ls1 heads not ls6.

to the op: start with headers, an ory, the muffler of your choice, and a real tune. that will free up quite a bit of power. my stock 2000 a4 car picked up 9mph (101-110) in the 1/4 from adding headers, an xpipe, and 4x9 magnaflows turned down at the axle, all else being unchanged.

so you're telling me that the 99 ta in sig that traps 108 now with a lid, ory and flowmaster muffler will go 112 just by switching from 853 heads to 241s? as i mentioned earlier, you sir, are mistaken.

Whatever man. The 241's are a better head and Flow better than the 853's that is common knowledge. Sorry but I have seen it in person. When you can say that I will take your word for it. I agree the 243's are a good head. I have two sets in the garage. There is no differance between them and the other set of 241's that are in my hand. The 853's are different.

853 was used on 99-00 LS1 engines.
241 was used on 01-04 LS1 engines.
They both have a 66.67 cc combustion chamber (10.1 CR), 200cc intake runners on the 853, 241s have a different design in regards to their intake runners that allows for more efficient air flow, more velocity. The 241 has 210cc intake runners and 70cc (round) exhaust ports.
The 243 head is the 01+ LS6/LS2 head.
It has a smaller 64.45cc chamber for more compression (10.5 CR on LS6), 210cc intake runners, and 75cc D-shaped exhaust ports.
All three came with 2.00" intake valves, and 1.55" exhaust valves.
Of the three, the 243 (Z06) head is the most desirable for flow, and is the most popular base for further porting/modifying. Not many people mess with porting LS1 heads anymore.
And FYI for the ones you didn't mention...
5.3 truck heads (casting #862 and 706) are also a very popular base casting for porting/modifying, due to their even smaller (61.15cc) chamber size which raises compression when used on a LS1/6 engine..
6.0 truck heads (casting #317) are popular heads with the forced induction crowd, as they are basically the same as 243 heads, but with larger 71.06cc chamber size, which lowers compression when used on a LS1/6 engine.

And to 99Ls1fever: 241 and 243 heads appear the same to you!? Are your eyes not open, or do you just not know what you're looking at?
