Default 6.0 swap 99 z28

I am new to the ls based engines and i am in the progress of doing a swap in my personal 99 z28,,here is my deal i have some very great customers that run and tune a single 76 turbo foxbody mustang and it runs like 5.80s/5.90s on a 275 drag radial, but the kicker is the bottom end is a bone stock 302 with a cam and afr heads and of course fuel system upgrades,so i said i can take a junkyard motor and out run them,,,but i know nothing about the ls engines,,i had in mind going with a 05/06 2500 6.0 truck motor, and i also have a bone stock 99 ls1 out of my camaro.i thought i would do a single 76 turbo, cam swap,o-ring the block, change injectors, pump, regulator, pushrods, lifters, valvespr ings and rockers,do valve job and port work and other than that i am going to do nothing other than change the timing chain, oil pan, bearings, rings and plugs and wires,i need help figuring out which bottom end i need to go with without spending a ton of money but i also need to know which head is the best raw casting to work on,i have a buddy that runs a huge junkyard and that is where i am getting my lowmileage donor motor,he can get me just about anything i wantbut i dont want to spend the money on a late model vette motor,so if someone will help me with the info i will be greatful

the stock heads on the lq9 or lq4 are not bad at all stock or with a little work. you could take that motor and put an ls6 intake and fuel rails to run it in a car with your turbo kit for the cheap *** spanking you seem to desire to hand out. thats not a bad combo at all and could be pushed to 1000 hp with the right fuel. go for it! And post pics and video of the race.

LQ4 is a 6.0 truck engine that came in 99-07 2500's, H2s, Denalis, and the like. The LQ9 is the high compression version that came in Escalades (some, not all), Silverado SS's, VHO's, and Vortec Maxes. The LQ9 has beefier rods too until either '04 or '05 then all 6.0's have the same rods, the only difference being the LQ4 had dished pistons and the LQ9 had flat tops. For boost you'd be looking for and '04-'05 and up LQ4.

Be aware too that the '99-'00 LQ4's had iron heads and a different crank too. The crank is longer to accommodate the 4L80E transmission and doesn't interchange with much; but the 5.3, LS1, and '01+ 6.0's all have the same crank. The LS1 crank is a little different in design though but does have the same stroke of 3.622.

dude ide say in spirit of making a low budget beast keep the ls1 and run with it. i am positive if u actually do the type of work u r talking about your z will more than give that fox a run for its money. but if u r dead set on a 6.0 then like stroker ace said the '04-'05 LQ4 for sure.

p.s. good post stroker
