Default QTP Catted Y Cat Failure

Just had a new RPS dual carbon clutch installed at Vengeance racing last week, was putting some miles on the car and thought something in the motor broke... scared the heck out of me.

Turns out the pass side cat in my QTP Y is making serious noise in side, I thought the sound was in the motor to start with

Looked and the QTPs catted Y is 525.00

That is a bit much after what I just spent for the RPS clutch and shop work....
Anyone know what brand of Cats QTP uses or a decently priced place to pick them up????

Not sure on the f-body but I have their Vette system and they use Random Tech cats. That may be why the price is high.

aftermarket cats a not good to pass emissions with and usually do not last for too long. if you don't care about emissions get some allflow cats, it is basically a gutted cat with a straight pipe.

I do not have emission tests in my part of Ga, just up near ATL has it so far....
But I do not like the rasp and fuel smell you get without them, which is why I ran them to start with.

I got 45K miles out of them and if they had not taken my exhaust down 2 times it may not have failed, or it was just time, stuff like that you just don't know.

That is the first think I would look into. I have always had good luck with QTP and there customer service. Give thema ring and see what they say. Good Luck on your fix.

What was the comment about QTP being Japanesse crap about? I always thought they were very good quality products. Just wanted to see what evidence you had and reasoning behind that?

I would just call Barry at QTP and let him know what's going on with the product.
He's a great guy I'm sure there's something to be worked. out.
I've never had any problems with his products.

Absolutely not true. All QTP headers and cutouts are made out of stainless steel at their factory in New Jersey. The QTP F-body y-pipes are sourced from Mufflex, also in New Jersey. No overseas crap from QTP. You may be mistaking them with another cutout mfr.

I am not sure about their other products. There E- cut outs leave alot to be desired. I have had mine broke twice and a majority I have spoken to including a few buddies, have had the same thing. Everyone recommends DMH over them. Plus the warranty is much longer. I won't buy another one.

The only reason that my cut out could stop working, which it hasnt. Is that my car is lowered on the Eibach Prokit and occuasionally the car bottoms out. I could see this as why people have issues with the cut out and faulty wiring. But I have had ZERO problems with any of their Product and have a 1400 Exhaust system from them. So Over the past years the quality has been worth the price to me.

Agreed, I have NEVER had a problem with any of my QTP exhaust pieces and the entire exhaust is made by them.

That sucks - let us know how it turns out. I'm seriously contemplating putting cats back on my car to keep the smell down.

Yeah. Mine is stock ride height and 3 other buddies are stock ride height and theirs broke same way mine did. They have been using DMH for a year or two and have been happy and many people highly recommend then, so that is who I am going with.
