there is a VATS writeup on how to do it on the 4th gen cars, it consists of getting at the wires under the dash below the steering column, and soldering in a radio shack resistor(s) having an equal value of the resistor chip that's in the key.

yea...thats pretty much it. its all about the resistance of the chip, and you have to match that pretty much exact. it will save you alot of aggravation and BS.
