starter issues
I got a new motor SBC dart....New battery in trunk, very large gauge poss and neg cables straight to a new factory starter...turns over ok till I turn on elect. fuel pump and MSD 7al fires off.....Then it sounds like the starter is kicking in and out of engagement....When it does manage to fire up, the new motor sounds great!
Do I need to get a MSD high power starter? Will it do more work with out drawing so more current?

What's very large gauge? I used 2/0 marine battery cable.
To test whether a larger gauge would help, try hooking up one wire of a good pair of jumper cablesfrom the bat. to the starter and see if the double feed helps.
Did you run a neg. cable all the way back to the battery? I put a 2/0 neg. cable straight to the frame, the pulled off grounds up near the motor instead of using another cable.
A high-efficiency gear reduction starter can use less power - see what it is rated when under load.
You also might have too small a battery.
